WWII Veteran/Polish Army, Allied Forces under British Army– Recipient of the Virtuti Militari Silver Cross for Bravery– Served in Russia, North Africa, Egypt, Palestine, Iran, Iraq, Italy (Battle of Monte Cassino) and England– Member of General Sikorski Polish Veteran's Association– Peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 with family by his side– Born November 22, 1917 in Wilchwy, Poland– Predeceased by parents, Joanna Polok and Wincenty Hejna and three brothers and two sisters in Poland– Also predeceased by his beloved wife Matylda (nee Orzyszkiewicz) "Madzia" and nephew Andrzej Hojka of Oshawa– Konrad is survived by his loving daughter Lucy (Niejadlik), son-inlaw John, his two grandsons Christopher(Courtice) and Adam (Calgary, Alberta) and the joy of his recent years, his great-grandson Ethan– Born on the Feast Day of St– Cecilia, the Patron Saint of Music, Konrad was a founding member of St– Hedwig's Parish and was gifted with an exceptional voice and sang with The St– Hedwig's Church Choir for many years as well as being the Cantor at Masses and Soloist at many weddings– His favourite hobbies were gardening and walking through the woods mushroom picking– Konrad enjoyed many trips to Florida with his wife and a favourite summer vacation spot in Northern Ontario, Round Lake Centre– Konrad is survived by an extended family in Poland icluding his sister Justyna and brothers Benedykt and Jozef– Friends and Relatives will be received at McINTOSH-ANDERSON FUNERAL HOME LTD–, 152 King Street East, Oshawa (905-433-5558) on Friday, March 6, 2009 from 7 - 9 pm with prayers at 8 pm– Funeral mass to take place at ST– HEDWIGS ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH (Polish), 411 Olive Ave– on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 10 am– Interment at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery– Donations made in memory of Konrad to the Sick Kids Foundation or to a charity of choice would be appreciated by his family– On-line condolences may be made at www–mcintosh-anderson–com
