TRYSSENAAR, Laurens 'Bob' At Caressant Care Nursing Home, Listowel on Monday, December 24, 2012, in his 97th year. Survived by his beloved wife Christina of Listowel and five children - Thea Merritt of Beamsville, Antoinette Villa and her husband Nick of Blaine, Washington, USA, Walter Tryssenaar and his wife Judi of Stratford, Laura Tryssenaar and her husband Bill Armstrong of Listowel, and Joyce Tryssenaar of Thunder Bay. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law Sofia Hartmann of Ingelheim, Germany and many nieces and nephews both in Canada and the Netherlands. He is predeceased by his parents and siblings. Laurens was born in Oudewater, The Netherlands on May 2, 1916 to Leonardus Arnoldus Trijssenaar and Geertje Boer. He married Christina Johanna Bos on March 23, 1943 in Zeist. In 1948 they emigrated to Canada. Laurens was a baker by trade but came to Canada to become a dairy farmer. He worked as a farm hand in the Millbank and Tavistock areas before they settled in Acton in 1953. In 1967 they moved to Listowel to farm fulltime. For many years following retirement they wintered in Lakeland, Florida. Laurens was an avid Scrabble player, loved to read, do jigsaw puzzles, and play cards. He was a member of Trinity United Church, loved singing, and knew the words to many hymns. He enjoyed company and conversation. Laurens has bequeathed his body to the University of Guelph where he will now continue his service through teaching. A memorial service will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home , Listowel on Saturday, December 29 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Listowel Public Library or charity of your choice may be made in his memory through the funeral home.
