Harold Edwin KAUFMAN

KAUFMAN, Harold Edwin With dignity, at the Maples Home for Seniors in Tavistock on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, Harold Edwin Kaufman passed away, in his 94th year. To Harold the most treasured aspect of his life was his family. His easy going, fun loving spirit was his gift to all of us throughout his lifetime. He was a gifted athlete and an incredible hockey player. His love of hockey and ultimate optimism were infectious. He was a veteran of World War II having served with the Royal Canadian Army Fusiliers. After five years of service in the army, Harold joined the Ralston Purina Company where he was employed for 38 years. Harold loved a beer and a trip to the horse races. Over the years he spent many a Sunday afternoon enjoying picnics at "the valley" with all of the family. Devoted husband and best friend of Irene Theresa Kaufman (nee Hartman) for over 71 years. Remembered with treasured love by his son Keith and wife Shirley (Kitchener), his daughter Joan and her husband Julien Den Tandt (Heidelberg) and his son John (Jack) Kaufman and his wife Alicia (Woodstock). Affectionately known as Grandad or Grandy and forever adored by his six grandchildren Julie Den Tandt and her fiancé Mike MacPherson (Toronto), John Den Tandt (Sydney, Australia), Jeanine Den Tandt (New York), Mark Kaufman and his wife Beth (Guelph), Joanne O'Neill and her husband Chris (St. Catharines) and Kelly Ann Traplin and her husband Tom (Kitchener). Harold is survived by his only sister Irma and his sister-in-law Gloria Kaufman. Irene's brothers- in-law Dave Lupton and Alex Post and many of Harold and Irene's wonderful nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Edwin and Emma Kaufman nee (Wettlaufer) and his brothers James (Helen), Roy (Marie), Tom (Helen), and Ronald and his brother-in-law Jack Hutchison and Irene's family, Mary, Wilfrid (Mary), John Vincent, Anne (Leo Tevlin), Rita, Fred (Margaret), Ruth Post, Grace (Ray Kaufman), Howard (Mary), Louise (Cliff Pasher), Robert in infancy, and Jenny (Jack Battler). Friends and relatives may call at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home , 291 Huron St., New Hamburg on Monday, January 14th from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Parish prayers will be at 3:45 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at the funeral home. Burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery, New Hamburg. A reception at the funeral home will follow the interment.
