SALOVAARA, Vainö (Van) WWII Veteran in RAF/RCAF Died peacefully with his family by his side on December 1, 2007 at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital in his 85th year. Loving husband of Olive (nee O'Brien) for 62 years. Devoted father of Barry and his wife Tina Portman of Monetville, ON and Paul of Oakville (Joanne Salovaara of Hamilton). Cherished grandpa of Shae and her husband Derek Hallman of Thornvale, ON, Mical of Burlington, Ben and Zach of Hamilton. Great-grandfather of Grant. Much loved brother of Ebba Russel of Dorset, Hilda and Bert Treff of Lindsay, George and Kris Salovaara of South River, ON. During the war, Van completed 39 missions as a tail gunner in a Lancaster bomber, 49th Squadron stationed in Fiskerton, England. He was a dedicated hockey dad and had a passion for golf, but unfortunately golf didn't have a passion for him. Later in life, he became the owner of Thomas Abrasive Products Inc. in Oakville for 25 years. The family wishes to thank the staff at Wyndham Manor, Oakville and the Palliative Care Unit at OTMH for your compassion and care. A private family Service was held at the Ward Funeral Home, "Oakville Chapel" (905-844-3221).
