Kenneth ROWE

ROWE, Kenneth RDP, FRPSL, FRPSC. Peacefully in Hamilton on July 5, 2014 in his 90th year. Predeceased by his wife Mary and by his long time companion Ruth Snider. After serving with the British Royal Engineers in Burma in WWII, Ken completed his military tour of duty in Vienna where the Royal Engineers helped rebuild the famous Vienna Riesenrad as a symbol of hope and restoration for the citizens of the city. Ken moved to Canada in 1953 with his wife Mary. He worked at Avro Aircraft Inc. until 1959 when production of the Avro Arrow was shut down by the Diefenbaker government. Ken became a senior administrator at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto where he remained until his retirement in 1988. Ken was a member of the advisory board of the Canadian Postal Museum as well as a member of several philatelic organizations including founding member of the Vincent Graves Greene Philatelic Research Foundation in 1975 and it's Chair for over 17 years. He was an executive of the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada for many years, a Senior Fellow of the Society and Editor of the Canadian Philatelist from 1967 to 1973. He was a Fellow of the Royal Philatelic Society of London and became a Signatory of the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists in 1995. Ken will be greatly missed by Anne Snider and Alex McNair who express their deep gratitude to the extraordinary team at Shalom Village who cared for Ken over the last eight years. Cremation and a private interment have taken place.
