Dymtro Nepotiuk

Nepotiuk, Dymtro (December 1, 1923 - September 24, 2016) Dymtro passed away peacefully at the age of 92 after being lovingly cared for at the home of his son William in Peterborough for the last four years. He will be remembered always with love and affection by his son, daughter-in-law Mary-Claire and most cherished granddaughters Anastasia and Talia. At last Dymtro will be reunited with his wife Anastasia and all of his family from whom he was separated so many years ago. Dymtro's story was that of all refugees - he was displaced from his family due to war and forced to come to a new county where he knew no one and didn't speak the language. It is a testament to his courage and intelligence that he succeeded in making a good life for his family in Canada. At the age of 17 Dymtro was forced to leave his village in the Ukraine and brought to Germany to help bring in the harvest for the farmers who were serving in the German army. He remained there until the end of the war, when he became a displaced person - unable to return home. He met a young woman named Anastasia in similar circumstances and they married and had their son William while living in a Displaced Persons camp in Germany. Dymtro came to Canada at the age of 22 through a sponsorship program and began his life here working for a farmer in the Niagara region. Once his wife and son arrived, they moved to Toronto where he found work with CN Rail and remained until retirement. Although he never became a farmer himself, Dymtro grew the most beautiful garden at his home in downtown Toronto and spend many wonderful hours playing with his granddaughters there. Despite the difficulties and challenges in his life, Dymtro maintained a loving nature and sense of grace and dignity. He was the most gentle, doting and loving father, father-in-law and Dido (grandfather). The family would like to thank the staff at Peterborough Regional Hospital for their assistance and gentle care. Visitation will be on Friday, September 30th from 6-8pm at the Cardinal Funeral Home, 92 Annette St., Toronto. Panachyda (Prayer Vigil) at 7:30. Funeral Mass at 10 am Saturday, October 1st, at St Nicholas Ukranian Catholic Church, 4 Bellwood's Ave., Toronto (Near corner of Bellwoods and Queen St.) Internment at Beechwood Cemetery.
