KOYANAGI, James Jun Passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 in his 88th year. Beloved husband of Kimiko for 55 years. Loving father of Marc Koyanagi (Susan Forester) of London, UK, and Eric Koyanagi (Peggy) of Los Angeles. Cherished grandfather of Graydon, Hudson, Delphine and Luna. Dear brother of his predeceased siblings Fusae Kawakami, Ichiro Koyanagi, Sherry Ishibashi, Gus Koyanagi, Connie Kawamoto and Ken Koyanagi. James is also survived by many dear nieces and nephews, extended family and great friends. James was a graduate of the University of Toronto School of Architecture, class of 1954. A founding partner of the Svedas-Koyanagi Architects firm, he was responsible for the design of many notable buildings including the Burlington City Hall, Royal Botanical Gardens and the University of Toronto Athletic Centre. An active member of various organizations, he was especially devoted to the Rotary Club of Burlington Lakeshore. He was a long time coach and manager in Burlington Minor Hockey as well as an avid golfer, curler and judo black belt. A lifelong global traveler, James was also integral to the establishment of Burlington's twin city of Itabashi, Japan. Special thanks to Dr. Keith Comeau and his staff for their exceptional and compassionate care. A Celebration of Life will be held March 18, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Royal Botanical Gardens in Burlington. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in James' name to a children's charity of your choice.
