Alan Heyes CANDY

CANDY, Alan Heyes Alan was born on December 18,1926 in Blackpool, England to Richard Hedderly and Gertrude (nee Heyes) Candy. He was raised in Ottawa and Chalk River, Ontario graduating from Kemptville Agricultural College. He had a fruit farm in St. Catharines before working at Westinghouse as a draftsman for 25 years in Hamilton. He married Norma Joyce Johnston (1953). Alan is survived by four children Nancy (Paul), Sharon (John), Jim (Karen) and Barbara (Gerry); and grandchildren Thomas, Simon, Spencer (Jonathon), Victoria (Christopher), Bennett, Eric and Ian; whom he loved and enjoyed. He is predeceased by wife Norma, and brother Peter (Sheila) of Vancouver, brother-in-law Duncan Payne from Victoria, and Norma's brother Bill (Maureen). He is survived by his sister Margaret in Victoria and Norma's sister Carole Chapman (Bill) in St. Catharines. Alan also has many nieces and nephews, from both Ontario and B.C. who he appreciated and loved. He corresponded regularly with relatives in the U.K. and New Zealand. Alan gardened enthusiastically. He died September 20, 2017 peacefully next to the pond at Carpenter Hospice. He touched lives wherever he was, including those at Welcome Inn. Special thanks to his church family at Hamilton Mennonite, staff at Hamilton General Hospital, Georgian Retirement Home (Dundas) and Carpenter Hospice (Burlington). Your kindness and care to Alan was amazing. Alan felt prepared for his "next grand adventure", looking forward to being reunited with his wife Norma. Alan was blessed with love in his life and will be missed in death. Visitation and Celebration of Life will take place at Hamilton Mennonite Church, 143 Lower Horning Rd, Hamilton. Visitation October 1 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Celebration of Life, Monday, October 2 at 11:00 a.m. Alan will be buried at Grove Cemetery. Donations to Welcome Inn Community Centre in lieu of flowers.
