BRYDON, Elizabeth "Betty" (née Binger) It is with deep sadness that the family of Betty Brydon announces her passing on Friday, September 22, 2017 in the Comox Valley at the age of 85. Betty will be lovingly remembered by her son, Colin (Cathy) and their children Megan and Chelsey; and her daughter Wendy (John) and their children Mitchell and Mason; two brothers Dave (Barb) and Alan; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Betty was predeceased by her husband John, her parents Arthur and Muriel Binger and siblings Doug and Shirley. Our Mom was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario one of five children, a sister and three brothers. She spent many happy summers at the family cottage, "Binghaven". Growing up she was an avid cyclist and biked extensively through eastern Canada and Europe. As a member of the Canadian Youth hostel association she made many friends which she kept throughout her life. On her way to Australia, Mom moved to Vancouver where she met and married the love of her life, our Dad, John. Mom and Dad had 37 wonderful years together. They were best friends, and partners-an example of what true love really is. Mom was ever supportive and always loving. She played the piano daily most of her life. Dad loved to change companies and start new adventures, Mom was always positive and up for a change. Therefore, there were many moves throughout the years, Vancouver, Cassiar, Yellowknife, Edgewood, Victoria and finally Comox. The family spent many years in Edgewood on a small farm, Mom and Dad both loved the peaceful beauty of the country and the people they met there. Mom was very creative and loved weaving. Betty had a great talent, spending years learning the craft. She was a proud member of the "Victoria Weavers and Spinners' Guild" and the "Plus Fours", where she developed many close friendships through the years. When Dad fell ill, they moved back to Victoria, a city they both loved. After Dad passed, Mom returned to her first love, travelling. Thailand, the Great Wall of China, Ayers Rock, Russia, were all checked off her list. Mom enjoyed travelling, most of all she enjoyed travelling with her friends. The travel stories she told when we got together were fantastic. Until her late 70's Mom would drive from Victoria to Athabasca and back to see her daughter Wendy and family every year, always enjoying the long road trip, ever independent. Betty would constantly help folks in need, a trait that was with her until the end, in spite of her failing memory. Mom you were loved and we will miss your laughter and your beautiful gentle soul. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Betty's name may be made to Glacier View Lodge (2450 Back Rd. Courtenay, BC V9N 8B5), the Alzheimer's Society (300-828 West 8th Ave. Vancouver, BC V5Z 1E2), or, if you would prefer, perform an act of kindness, with Betty in mind. Please join us in remembering Betty by visiting our memorial at www.piercysmtwashingtonfuneral.com Betty's family will be celebrating her life in the spring when we spread her ashes with Dad's.
