Douglas Arthur ARMSTRONG

ARMSTRONG, Douglas Arthur March 5, 1926 ~ November 4, 2017 It is with sadness that the family of Doug announces his passing on November 4, 2017 at the West Parry Sound Health Centre in his 91st year. Doug was born in Peterborough, Ontario to Lucy and Thomas Armstrong in 1926. He was the loving father of Mark and big brother to his sister Nancy Lawrence (Bill) and was predeceased by his daughter Jayne, his wife June Michaelis, and his daughter-in-law Laurie. Doug's family wishes to thank his special friends Erika Johnson and Steve Raney and their families who helped him in so many ways over the years. Doug worked several years for the Firestone Tire Company in Burlington then moved to Ottawa where he used his accounting and managerial talents in the Government of Canada. His last government posting was to Parry Sound where he worked for the Canadian Coast Guard. His retirement in 1992 marked the end of a hard-working career where he met so many friends. Doug enjoyed music and played the clarinet in high school. He was very knowledgeable and keen to teach others in the worlds of big-band and jazz. He volunteered for the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1944 and maintained a life-long interest in military and aviation history. A kind, thoughtful and generous man who will be sorrowfully missed. Private burial has taken place. A Memorial visitation will be held at the Torrance Funeral Home (89 Bowes St.) on Friday, November 10, 2017 from 12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. If desired, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
