POPE, Marie nee LaDouceur (Fenton) February 3, 1952 - November 9, 2017 'Krazy' Marie was full of life and laughter and loved a good time. If you were part of Toronto's Queen Street West nightlife in the '80s you knew Krazy Marie. The nickname was self-invented and she wore it as a badge of honour. She worked as a bartender and was a regular in the after-hours clubs. On her days off she could be found in Kensington Market, particularly in any bar with live music. Everybody loved her. She was absolutely fabulous, fun, funny - always a good time. You couldn't help but smile when you shared stories with and about Krazy Marie. Guess what outrageous thing she did this time? Born Marie LaDouceur in Windsor, Ontario she lived in Toronto, England and Costa Rica, travelled extensively and married twice. Her first marriage was to Jack Fenton and her second to Tony Pope. Life was a cabaret. She was loved. She was unbelievably kind. And she told stories. Wonderful big fish stories. A ride to work on the streetcar could turn into a harrowing tale of adventure, and did. The last decade of her life, she lived in High Park and enjoyed time with friends at Graffiti's in Kensington Market and Mackenzie's in High Park. She was recognizable by her laugh, her flaming red hair and signature hat, sometimes festooned with something bright, shiny and bizarre. Marie leaves behind loving son William Fenton, daughter-in-law Christine, grandsons Brock, Sam and Brant; brothers Jim (Sheena) and Ron LaDouceur; nieces Lisa and Pamela Steel (Bill Coke); nephews Len Steel (Barbara Landry), Paul (Susan Peng) and David (Tami) LaDouceur; grand-nieces and nephews Kara, Eric, Avery, Amanda, Nathan, Maya, Mitchell, Abigail and Kathleen; and many dear friends including Marsha (Colin Critchlow) and Neville Winn. Predeceased by her mother Gladys Jewell Bergeron; father, Don LaDouceur and much-loved sister Linda Doherty. The family thanks Samantha Newman, Case Manager from Woodgreen Community Services for all her efforts to help Marie in the last, difficult year of her life. A celebration of life will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 16 at the Wordsworth Coop Penthouse, 133 Wilton Street, Toronto. In lieu of flowers, Marie would prefer you take yourself out for a drink and some live music.
