HARGADON, John (March 27, 1931 - June 14, 2019) Honest and clever to the end, in his eighty-ninth year, John Eugene Joseph Michael Hargadon punched the clock a final time on the afternoon of Friday, June 14th in Midland, Ontario. "Surrounded by family," he once quipped, he wanted "to reach a hundred" so he'd see his picture in the paper. He was predeceased by parents Ethel Lucy (Poile) and James Eugene, brother William, sisters Sybil Ruth (Quilty), Phyllis Charlotte, and Therese Marie (O'Neail). He is survived by his sister Mary Jo (Quilty) of Midland, and many nieces, nephews, and their grand progeny. A gentle, kind man, uncle Johnny hiked and biked, was an adept curler and "decent" golfer. A devoted son and brother, he "would have been a baker" had his father not died when Johnny was eight. Their West Brant bakery soon became Hargadon's Store and he helped his mother and sisters run it. He lived to work, especially long days on the road with Flintkote or shifts at Raymond. In later years he could critique your pastry and savour dessert within the same blink of a witty eye. His favourite drink was beer, obviously. The family wishes to thank the dedicated and caring staff at Tiffin House for their support and compassion. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to a local Alzheimer's Society or Food Bank. Visitation is Sunday, June 23rd, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., at Thorpe Brothers Funeral Home, 96 West Street in Brantford, Ontario. Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated Monday, June 24th, 9:30 a.m., at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 9 Waverly St., Brantford.
