Charles DAWSON Obituary

DAWSON, Charles Franklin ""Chuck"" Peacefully at Peterborough Regional Health Centre, after a short illness, aged 35,726 days. Predeceased by his parents Charles Lawrence Dawson and Edna Kathleen Dawson (n? Swartman), and by siblings William and Leta. Beloved husband of Stella (d. 2014) for nearly 70 years. Loving father of Peter (Lucy), Michael, John, Anne Seli (Norman) and Mary McGarrity (James). Cherished grandfather of Matthew, Michael and Paul Seli, Charlotte McGarrity (Todd Rossi) and Anne McGarrity (Tristan O'Reilly), and Katie Dawson. Great-grandfather of Evelyn O'Reilly, Stella Rossi, and Willow O'Reilly. Chuck was born and raised in Waubashene, Ontario, and served as a pilot officer in the R.C.A.F during World War II, stationed at Ancienne Lorette, and later, in England. After a brief career with Canadian Pacific Airlines, he attended university and obtained his degree in chemistry. He then joined Ayerst, McKenna and Harrison, a manufacturer of pharmaceuticals where he stayed until his retirement in 1987. Next, and with his characteristic enthusiasm, he took up woodworking, and with Stella, joined the Golden Tones, with whom he performed for many years. He was a fine raconteur, a gentleman, a truly gentle man, and a friend to all animals, and he will be sorely missed by his family and many friends. Visitation at DUFFUS FUNERAL HOME, 431 George Street South, Peterborough, Ontario, from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 19, 2019 (Parish Prayers at 4:00 p.m.). Funeral mass on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CHURCH, Keene Road. Interment to follow at St. Peter's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lakefield Animal Society, Operation Catnip (P. O. Box 703, Peterborough, Ontario K9J 6Z8) or the charity of your choice would be appreciated. The family wish to extend heartfelt thanks to the wonderful care workers at PRHC, especially to Nurses Olivia, Holly, Taylor and Emma.
