John JANSEN Obituary

JANSEN, John July 26, 1947 to September 5, 2019 John passed away at Fairhaven Long Term Care on September 5, 2019, with his wife Adriana (Liza) by his side, after a courageous and lengthy battle with Parkinson's Disease. He will be sadly missed by her and his three children, Lisa, Renee, Edward (Marla) and his two grandchildren, Raechal and Dexter, as well as his four siblings, in-laws, extended family, many friends and all that knew him. He loved the outdoors and was an avid competitor in the Arctic Winter Games, winning many medals and he was also a fierce marathon runner. After graduation from Ryerson University, he headed west and then north and became instrumental in surveying the Dempster Highway from the Yukon to Inuvik NWT, as well as the Highway from Inuvik to Tuktoyuktuk, which was completed in 2017. Later in his career he was a resource person for the Yukon Territorial Government and was involved in the settlement for land claims. He and Liza returned to Ontario in 2002 and settled on Buckhorn Lake for 11 years with a subsequent move to Peterborough in 2013. In keeping with John's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held at ASHBURNHAM FUNERAL HOME , 840 Armour Rd, Peterborough on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Fairhaven Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
