Helen ANDERSON Obituary

ANDERSON, Helen Marie It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Helen Marie Anderson (nee Drury) on October 21, 2019 at age 90, at home surrounded by family. Born January 18, 1929 in Hamilton, Ontario. Helen was more commonly known and beloved throughout her life as Mom, Grammy, and Great-Grammy, roles she truly reveled in. The matriarch of a big family, Helen will be remembered for her artistry and creativity, seen in every sewing project she undertook, every cake or pie she baked, and every holiday craft she so effortlessly handmade. She will be remembered for her tenacity and zest, seen in her competitive spirit when playing board games, in her sense of adventure in riding rollercoasters with her grandchildren and in her initiation and upkeep of family traditions like weekly Sunday lunch, birthday card loonies and spending every holiday together. She will be remembered for her grace, seen in the Chanel perfume she used, the China tea cups she drank from, the silk blouses she adorned, and in the warm way she embraced you when you went in for a hug. The crown jewel of her life, Helen experienced a nearly unparalleled love story. More than seventy years ago on Kinrade Avenue in Hamilton, she met and fell in love with her husband, Rob, who lived on the same street. They were married on October 8, 1949. Their enduring love and devotion inspires us all. She will be missed dearly by her husband of 70 years, Robert Anderson. By her children: Leslie Allen (late Jimmy), late Jim Anderson (Carole), Jamie Halloran, Kathi Anderson (Wally), Beverly Steer (Chris), and Jo Smith (Warren). By her grandchildren: Cameron (Lisa), Holly (Mark), Carrie (Jay), Kevin, Michael, Chad, Corey, Samantha, Blair, Calum, and Will. By her great-grandchildren: Austin, Cody, Kadyn, late Ava, Sebastian, Amelia, and Abbey. Sister of Jack Drury, late Vi Hunt, late Vera Fountain, and sister-in-law to Helen Walters. Predeceased by her parents, John and Doris Drury, who came to Canada from Southport, England. In her own words, Helen said she lived a beautiful life. As our Mom, Grammy, or Great-Grammy, she has gifted us a loving legacy of laughter, joy, and countless cherished memories. Selfless and steadfast, we are made better because of her. Cremation has taken place.
