Joseph Franklin EIGNER

EIGNER, Joseph Franklin Although we are saddened by his passing, we rejoice knowing that he is home in Heaven. Joe was extremely active until this past summer. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen, his brother Ed (Katie), his children, Michael (Sophia), Jo-Anne (Ronald), Jeffrey (Anne), his grandchildren, Karl, Thomas (Chloe), Sarah (Johan), Nathan (Janice), Benjamin (Kelsey), Larissa, Zachary, Natalia, and his great-grandchildren, Annabelle and David. From modest roots in Southern Ontario, first born of Hungarian Immigrants, Joe led a remarkable life. Saved from quitting high school by his brother, he went on to graduate from Queen's University in Electrical Engineering and later his MBA. Joseph lived and worked in Ontario and Alberta in the steel industry, retiring in 1993 from Stelco after 31 year with the company. After retirement, he worked in several countries for CESO. Joe was very active for 50 plus years in the Rotary Club. Joe was an avid and competitive golfer, a sport shared with Helen at home and during many winter getaways to the warmer south. Joe had a huge heart for people, particularly the less privileged. He lived selflessly and won friends with his caring, quiet demeanor. He set a strong example for his family as we strive to carry on his legacy. A celebration of Joe's life will be held on November 8, 2019 at Holy Trinity Riverbend Anglican Church (1428 156 St. NW) at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
