Ella SZAKALY Obituary

SZAKALY, Ella Alice It is with the heaviest of hearts our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother of Port Colborne passed away in her 94th year on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at the Welland General Hospital. Surrounded by family members, Ella went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ. Born in Satu-Mare, Hungary, she immigrated to Canada with her family at the age of 10. There was never a day in her life that she did not cherish the memories of her deceased family members, her parents, Steve and Grace Gilmore along with her only brother Steve and much beloved sisters Yolanda Czerlau and Grace Czinege. The Gilmore Girls are now together once again as they always were in life. Dear mother of Margaret (Rollin) Vail of Fort Erie, William (Oksana) Szakaly of St. Catharines and Nancie (James) Bell of Oakville. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren Jason Huber, Brian (Heidi) Vail, Kevin (Lise) Vail, Kathy (Jeff) Cascanette, Michael Szakaly and Lisa (Brad) Hubbard as well as her great-grandchildren Adam, Brianna, Lacey, Kaylee, Joshua, Jeffery, Evan, Maya and Brett, and her great-great-grandchildren Kenley, Kayden, Kaleb, Nakaiya and Xavea. Ella is survived by many nephews and nieces and was very appreciative of the tremendous assistance given to her in recent years by her niece Linda Matchett and her nephew Steve Czinege and his wife Ann. She loved spending time visiting with her family, along with travelling, was an amazing cook and so loved her flowers, nature and all creatures, especially dogs (Winston was like another grandson to her). The family would like to thank Dr. Goswami and all the nurses on the sixth floor for their untiring and compassionate care that they gave to our mother. We would also like to give heartfelt thanks for the outstanding care given to her by her cardiologist, Dr. Vera Chiamvimonvat of the Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital along with nurses Patty and Darlene at the Heart Function Clinic, which enabled our mother to be with us longer. Ella's family will receive friends at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL , 179 Clarence Street, Port Colborne on Monday, December 9, 2019 from 4-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at St. Therese of Lisieux Roman Catholic Church, 379 Fares Street at 12:00 p.m. with Father Michael Andrysiak officiating. Rite of Committal will follow at Mount St. Joseph Cemetery, Port Colborne. If so desired, memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Red Cross.
