Mark BENNETT Obituary

BENNETT, Mark William It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our son, brother and uncle on December 8th in his 36th year after a hard-fought battle with lymphoma. Mark is the beloved son of Bill (2013) and Joni, ""Best Big Brother"" of Meagan (Jason Burke), Marissa (Brennan Milmine), ""Super Uncle"" of Beckett, Bryson, Bowen and Layne who have made this journey bearable for us just with their presence. Mark attended Billy Green, Saltfleet and Brock. His gift was his ability to relate to children. He was a 10-year volunteer/ employee at Camp Trillium for families impacted by childhood cancer. Mark found his calling as a Senior Therapist and Principal at The Joy of Learning Centre, working with children of all ages with autism spectrum disorders. His patience and kindness were invaluable in helping students learn many life skills including their first words. Mark loved canoeing, fishing, hiking, and campfires under the stars, inspiring and fostering this passion for the outdoors in others, just like his dad had. His calm, confidence and awareness outdoors meant many run ins with wildlife which he shared through silly stories and often pictures, downplaying the scarier encounters with bears and rattlesnakes. When we moved to Burlington, Mark joined recreational co-ed hockey, then branched out to ball hockey leagues and was playing goalie up to four nights a week prior to his diagnosis. Mark and his dad were lifelong Toronto Maple Leaf fans. We would like to acknowledge the wonderful support of family and friends who went above and beyond during the past year. We would like to thank the staff of Joseph Brant Oncology, 7th Floor South and Princess Margaret for their unending support and compassionate care. In recognition of Mark's love of children, the family would appreciate donations to Camp Trillium, The Rainbows of Joy or the charity of your choice. All ages are invited to a casual Celebration of Life on Saturday January 4th at Mainway Recreation Centre. Ice rental 4:00 - 6:00, wear your skates and favourite jersey. Snacks and chats in the auditorium anytime from 4:00 - 7:00.
